How can we make sure we see exam success?

Many parents/carers ask us what they can do to help make sure that their child gets good grades in their exams. First and foremost, don't panic - stressed out students don't do well in exams. However, students who don't revise never do as well as they should.

Here are some handy tips for success:

  • Keep things in perspective…there’s life after GCSEs
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Too much stress can be counter-productive

They will need:

  • A comfortable place to work
  • Equipment – highlighters, post-its, paper, folders
  • A revision timetable

Revision

  • Little and often is the key to success
  • Make it active
  • Review it regularly

During the exams:

  • Exercise, sleep and fuel are critical
  • Early morning revision is better than late the night before
  • Remember the right equipment – pens, calculators, rulers

Use the Internet:

  • SAM Learning - your child has been given the passwords for this site
  • BBC Bitesize

Quite often students worry that they don't know how to revise. Rest assured that their teachers have given them advice, shown them the revision web sites, given them revision books (worth £10 to £15 per student), and there is further guidance (including the exam timetable and important links) on this web site. We will doing intensive revision sessions in class (these will only be effective if students revise at home as well), we will be offering after school revision sessions, and al the science teachers are available to help students from any class.

If you have any concerns please contact us by telephone through the College switchboard, or by email.
